Profile:

Tudor Jovin, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery, is the Director of the UPMC Stroke Institute, Co-Director of the UPMC Center for Neuroendovascular Therapy and Director of the UPMC Stroke and Neurointerventional training programs.  Since joining the UPMC Stroke Institute faculty in 2002, he has participated in multiple stroke research trials, and has over 100 publications and presentations in the field of vascular and interventional neurology. Dr. Jovin is involved in promoting research, education and clinical services in the Department of Neurology.  In his role as clinician, Dr. Jovin provides in-patient and out-patient vascular neurology and neuro-interventional services at UPMC Presbyterian University Hospital, UPMC Mercy and UPMC Shadyside. Dr. Jovin has significantly contributed to the growth of the interventional neuroradiology service, with emphasis on ischemic stroke related procedures such as extracranial carotid stenting, extracranial vertebral stenting, intracranial stenting and acute stroke thrombolysis. With well over 120 acute endovascular stroke interventions performed annually, the UPMC Stroke Institute is one of the highest volume interventional stroke centers in the US.

Dr. Jovin is actively involved in faculty, fellow, resident and student mentoring.  As one of the first neurointerventionalists in the country with neurology background training, Dr Jovin has shown strong commitment to the advancement of this field by promoting the training of neurologists in neurointerventional procedures. He is participating as the interventional neurology representative in the multidisciplinary design of training programs for the newly recognized neuro-endovascular surgery sub-specialty of neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology. As Director of the Stroke Institute Dr. Jovin leads local, state and national groups related to acute stroke management, through participation on committees and through presentations and publications. He is the local Principal Investigator for several multi-center trials of acute stroke therapy and imaging studies of acute stroke.  He also serves on steering committees for several multi-center national and international clinical trials. Dr. Jovin has just completed his term as Associate Editor for the Journal of Neuroimaging and serves on the editorial boards of Stroke and Journal of Neuroimaging.  Dr. Jovin holds the position of Vice-President (President elect) of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology and serves on the executive committee of the American Academy of Neurology, Interventional Neurology Section as the project work group leader for practice related
