Our Research

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC is home to the University of Pittsburgh Department of Psychiatry. Together, we create a highly recognized research center.

Through our affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Western Psychiatric and the Department of Psychiatry consistently rank among the top in the United States for psychiatric research funding from the National Institutes of Health. Additional funding comes from federal sources, state and local governments, private foundations, and industry sources.

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in research, training, and provision of clinical care.

The intellectual resources at Western Psychiatric are enriched by close collaborative ties with numerous other schools and departments within the University of Pittsburgh, including the Graduate School of Public Health and the departments of:
