In this presentation, moderated by Jonas Johnson, MD, chair, Department of Otolayngology, UPMC’s Barry Hirsch, MD, presents an update on implantable hearing devices. He reviews some of the specifics, generalities, indications, and what an ideal candidate would look like for each hearing device.

  • Describe the indications for bone anchored hearing devices
  • Recognize the success achieved in hearing preservation in cochlear implant surgery and the technology that supports these efforts
  • Describe the indications for acute middle ear implants
