Ellen M. Whyte, MD
Dr. Ellen M. Whyte is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and an Assistant Professor at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She received her medical training from the State University of NY at Buffalo, and completed residency training at Case Western Reserve University. She completed both a geriatric psychiatry fellowship and a post-doctoral research fellowship at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Her research focus is on the prevention of depression and cognitive decline after stroke, as well as the treatment of psychotic depression. She is a past recipient of a NIMH career development award focusing on the prevention of post-stroke depression and on the effects of depression prevention on physical rehabilitation after stroke. She currently is conducting NIH funded study focusing on improving rehabilitation outcomes in persons with stroke and cognitive impairment.
Dr. Whyte has received past research support from the NIMH, Ortho-McNeil, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and Forest Pharmaceuticals.
