UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Welcomes Three New Faculty Members

Please join UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in welcoming three new faculty: Saad Sheikh, MD; Marija Balic, MD, ScD, MBA; and Tatiana Moiseeva, PhD.

Saad Sheikh, MDjoined as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh and a member of the Genome Stability Program at UPMC Hillman. Dr. Sheikh will be treating primarily pediatric and CNS malignancies. He will also develop an active research program focusing on basic and translational research in pediatric cancers and will work to develop collaborations among other members of the Pediatric Cancers Disease Team and UPMC Hillman.

Marija Balic, MD, ScD, MBA, has joined UPMC Hillman Cancer Center as a professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Balic will provide three half days per week at the outpatient clinic of UPMC Magee Breast Cancer Clinic and serve as co-director of Magee Women’s Cancer Program, clinical co-leader of the Women’s Cancer Research Center (WCRC), and Scientific Director of the NSABP Foundation Translational Research Program. As co-director of Magee Women’s Cancer Program, she will provide overall direction for the breast cancer program at Pitt and UPMC in coordination with the other discipline co-leaders. As clinical co-leader of WCRC, she will provide breast clinical science expertise to guide the mission of the center, represent WCRC at local and national events, and organize educational and other events. She will also develop an active research program focusing on clinical and translational research in breast cancers working closely with other members of the breast cancer disease team and of our cancer center research programs.

Tatiana Moiseeva, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh and a member of the Genome Stability Program at UPMC Hillman. At UPMC Hillman, Dr. Moiseeva will develop an independently-funded research program in genome stability, which includes collaborative efforts with basic and clinical faculty across the cancer center. She is primarily interested in the investigation of the initiation in DNA replication in human cells.
