In this CME, Craig Seaman discusses how to know the indications for and dosing of DOACs in venous thromboembolism, describe the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of DOACs and recognize the effects of drug interactions on DOACs, identify the role of laboratory monitoring with DOACs ,  know how to perform anticoagulation conversion and manage periprocedural anticoagulation with DOACs, and describe the role of DOAC use in special populations (unusual sites of venous thromboembolism, thrombophilias, cancer, women, and obesity.

Educational Objectives 

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review the indications for and dosing of DOACs in venous thromboembolism
  • Describe the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of DOACs and recognize the effects of drug interactions on DOACs
  • Identify the role of laboratory monitoring with DOACs
