Andres Duarte-Rojo, MD, PhD, FACP, reviews the causes of acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis. Dr. Duarte-Rojo also provides treatment options for hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) in liver transplant candidates and explains how to prevent chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Educational Objectives

  • Identify the pathophysiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) in liver transplant candidates
  • Describe available strategies to treat AKI in liver transplant candidates with Hepatorenal syndrome
  • Recall renal outcomes following AKI-CKD in liver transplant recipients and explain strategies to prevent CKD
