After a general introduction of how we think about schizophrenia, Dr. Steinhauer discusses what psychologically oriented neurophysiology has brought to the understanding of the disease.

Educational objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe how psychophysiological evaluation provides insights into underlying mechanisms that are related to expression of symptomatology and risk for schizophrenia
  • Determine the extent to which deviations in neurophysiological functioning may occur in both persons in schizophrenia and their relatives as indicators of underlying genetic factors
  • Evaluate the usage of neurocognitive assessment to predict and track improvement in cognition related to behavioral and pharmacological interventions
