In this CME, Hussain Mahmud, MD, and Sura Alqaisi, MD, discuss managing adrenal insufficiency, detecting and treating primary aldosteronism, and using individualized approaches to improve outcomes and reduce antihypertensive use.

 Educational Objectives 

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain management of adrenal insufficiency and avoid over treatment related complications.
  • Describe patient counseling to reduce risk of adrenal crisis.
  • Explain management of adrenal insufficiency after adrenal surgeries.
  • Analyze detection of primary aldosteronism in patients with hypertension and/or hypokalemia which leads to early intervention and reduction in cardiovascular and renal complication.
  • Enhance knowledge about diagnostic steps of primary aldosteronism through appropriate screening to avoid unnecessary delay referring to specialist and treatment initiation.
  • Implement target individualized treatment including medical or surgical options which will improve blood pressure control and reduce the need of multiple anti-hypertensive medications.
