In this Winter 2021 edition of Rehab Grand Rounds, Maria Christina Littaua, MD, PT, and James Eubanks, MD, MS, present a clinical study on conversion disorder and physiatry. Conversion disorder (CD), also known as functional neurologic symptom disorder (FND), is a disease entity that is not referable to an organic neurologic or medical etiology. Dr. Eubanks and Dr. Littaua provide the epidemiology, pathophysiology and etiology, as well as diagnosis and treatment options.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define and characterize conversion disorder and describe the typical signs and symptoms
- Recognize the diagnostic features of conversion disorder based on DSM-5 criteria
- Identify treatment for the management of conversion disorder and implement a work-up for a suspected case
