UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital presents a modern look at patient safety in health care at the 21st Annual Dr. Dennis English Virtual Patient Safety Symposium on Tuesday, March 3 from 7:15 a.m. to noon. This virtual educational event will focus on providing safe, high-quality care in an evolving health care environment.

Overview

Throughout this symposium, attendees will be provided with knowledge on legal implications for health care professionals, elder abuse, and navigating through the systemwide transition of a new electronic health record platform.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Develop strategies to maintain evidence-based, patient-centered care despite conflicting or policy level messaging.
  • Build knowledge on delivering excellent care during uncertain times.
  • Identify how to efficiently and effectively apply risk mitigation strategies to reduce liability and ensure compliance with health care regulations.
  • Recognize signs and risk factors of elder abuse across clinical settings.
  • Describe next steps when elder abuse is suspected.
  • Describe readiness strategies for EPIC Wave 2, including effective communication and training approaches to ensure smooth adoption.
