2026 Stroke Symposium

The 2026 Stroke Symposium, presented by the UPMC Stroke Institute is meticulously crafted to disseminate the most up-to-date advancements in stroke care to all health care providers who serve stroke patients throughout their clinical journey. This event is specifically designed to augment the educational requirements of health care professionals affiliated with certified stroke centers, thereby equipping them with the latest knowledge and skills to effectively manage stroke patients.

Who Should Attend?

This conference is geared toward physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, physical/occupational, and speech language therapists, in addition to all other health care professionals who are affiliated with neurology, neurosurgery, emergency medicine, and work with patients through their pre-, intra-, and post-acute stroke care.

Learning Objectives

  • Enhance comprehension of prehospital stroke care and the paramount significance of effective communication.
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of in-hospital complication and prevention.
  • Engage in discussion on hot topics in management of large vessel occlusion in acute ischemic stroke.
  • Gain insight into after-stroke recovery’s impact on patient families.
  • Familiarize oneself with unique risk factors and treatments for stroke in women.
  • Participate in a discussion on unique and rare causes of acute ischemic stroke.
  • Become proficient in decision making regarding secondary stroke prevention tools.

In support of improving patient care, the University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physician (CME)

The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.75AMA PRA Category 1 Credit[s]. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirements of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABPMR credit.

Nursing (CNE)

The maximum number of hours awarded for this Continuing Nursing Education activity is 6.75 contact hours.

Physician Assistant (AAPA)

The University of Pittsburgh has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Other Health Care Professionals

Other health care professionals will receive a certificate of attendance confirming the number of contact hours commensurate with the extent of participation in this activity.
