UPMC Participating in PA Neurological Society 2025 Annual Meeting

October 10-11, 2025

The Pennsylvania Neurological Society will host its annual meeting with the goal of advancing the science and practice of neurology across the state October 10 to 11, 2025. Through education, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, the event will highlight innovative approaches and cutting-edge research that are shaping the future of neurological care.

The agenda will feature a wide range of expert-led sessions covering epilepsy management, neuroinfectious diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuro-oncology, and neuromuscular biomarkers. Attendees will also take part in dedicated networking opportunities, including an opening reception and exhibitor sessions.

UPMC’s Participation

UPMC faculty and leaders will play a significant role in the conference, underscoring the institution’s leadership in neurology and neuroscience research:

  • Page B. Pennell, MD, chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC, will also contribute to the Chair Panel, offering perspectives on advancing neurology education and patient-centered innovation.
  • Alexandra Urban, MD, Neurology Clinical Vice Chair and Professor, will deliver updates on neurostimulation in epilepsy management, drawing from her work as Interim Chief of the Epilepsy Division and Director of the UPMC Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.

  • James Sejvar, MD, clinical associate professor of Neurology, will present on emergent and reemergent neuroinfectious diseases, emphasizing diagnostic challenges and evolving trends in patient care.

  • Robyn Filipink, MD, clinical director of the Children’s Development Unit at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, will lead a session on transitioning patients with neurodevelopmental disorders from pediatric to adult neurology care.

  • Kerstin Bettermann, MD, chief of Neurology, UPMC Central and North Central Pa., and Medical Director of the UPMC Central Pa. Stroke Institute, will join the Neurology Department Chair Panel to discuss statewide challenges and opportunities in education, workforce development, and patient care. 

This event will showcase the collaborative spirit of Pennsylvania’s neurological community and reaffirm UPMC’s dedication to advancing neurology through research, clinical excellence, and thought leadership.
