17th Annual Current Concepts in Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Education Sessions

According to the National Institute for Injury Prevention and Control, approximately 1.4 million people sustain a brain injury every year. It is estimated that nearly 5.3 million of the United States population needs assistance and/or lifelong care due to a brain injury.

Join us for Current Concepts in Brain Injury Rehabilitation to learn about the treatments and strategies used at the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute to treat individuals living with a traumatic brain injury.

Who Should Attend

This course is intended for nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, case managers, social workers, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, physiatrists/physicians, and others involved with the acute care and rehabilitation of individuals with brain injury.

Learning Objectives for Participants

• Discuss the impact of cardiovascular disease on recovery following traumatic brain injury (TBI).
• Identify key brain injury resources through the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA) and describe how they support clinical care across the rehabilitation continuum.
• Evaluate key challenges in the long-term neuropsychological management of TBI, including impaired self-awareness, executive dysfunction, and caregiver burden.
• List important treatment differences between Functional Neurologic Disorders (FND) compared with concussion.

Continuing Medical Education

CME, CNE, AAPA, ASWB, APA, ASHA, PT, and OT education credits available.

The registration fee for this event is $75, which includes continuing medical education credit. The deadline for registration is October 28. If participating virtually, a link will be sent via email upon registration.
