Marlene Behrmann, PhD, to Join Department of Ophthalmology

Marlene Behrmann, PhD, will be joining the UPMC Department of Ophthalmology on July 1, 2022.

Dr. Behrmann is the Thomas S. Baker University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research is concerned with the psychological and neural bases of visual processing, specifically on the mechanisms by which the signals from the eye are transformed into meaningful percepts by the visual cortex. She adopts an interdisciplinary approach combining computational, neuropsychological, and functional brain imaging studies with normal and brain-damaged individuals and is interested in expanding her focus on the clinical and translational aspects of studying atypical visual perception.

Dr. Behrmann is a trailblazer in the field of vision cognition and impairment and has received many awards including the Presidential Early Career Award for Engineering and Science, and the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contributions. Dr. Behrmann is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
