2021 Annual Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation Conference Held in Pittsburgh

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh hosted the annual Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation (SPLIT) Conference in fall 2021 at the Fairmont Pittsburgh. 

More than 250 hepatologists, transplant surgeons, transplant coordinators, allied health care professionals, research coordinators, and data coordinators attended. Featured topics included:

  • Essentials in living-donor liver transplant
  • Advancements in liver transplant for metabolic liver disease
  • Frontiers in organ allocation
  • New approaches in pediatric liver transplant 

UPMC faculty presenters included Abhinav Humar, MD; George Mazariegos, MD; Simon Horslen, MB, ChB, FRCPCH; Marian Michaels, MD; Adriana Zeevi, PhD; Jake Demetris, MD (co-chair of the planning committee); Asad Zaman, MHA; Jim Squires, MD, MS; and Beverly Park, DNP, RN, FAAN. 

“UPMC was honored to host the 25th anniversary meeting of the Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation in Pittsburgh last fall,” said George Mazariegos, MD, chief, pediatric transplantation at UPMC Children’s.

“The hybrid meeting was a huge success and welcomed participants from nine countries and more than 40 North American pediatric transplant centers for cutting-edge presentations,” he said.

    Evan Muse, MD, Division Chief, Medical Director of Liver Transplant, Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle, WA

The SPLIT Education Committee oversees the annual meeting, a premier educational and networking event for the pediatric liver transplant community. The 2022 meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22 to 23 in Newport Beach, California.
