Amber Makani, MD, selected to be Young Leader for 2023 CRT Conference

Amber Makani, MD, a full-time faculty member of the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute and clinical assistant professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, has been selected as a Young Leader for the 2023 Cardiovascular Research Technologies (CRT) Conference, which will be held in Washington D.C. from Feb. 25 to Feb. 28. All Young Leaders are selected by the CRT 2023 Planning Committee.

Every year, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurses, and other cardiovascular specialists from around the world convene to participate in educational and training sessions focused on innovative treatments, novel research, and late-breaking clinical trials. The Young Leadership Recognition Program is part of the annual conference. It highlights early career interventional cardiologists and endovascular specialists who demonstrate clinical and academic excellence.

Dr. Makani is an interventional and structural cardiologist at UPMC Passavant. She is certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She earned her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed her residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland Case Western University, followed by a fellowship and subspecialty training at UPMC.

Dr. Makani’s clinical and research interests include interventional cardiology, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), closure of patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect, and left atrial appendage closure (LAAO). She is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
