Van Wyk Prize Awarded to Pediatric Endocrinologist Dorothy J. Becker, MBBCh, FCP(PEDS)

Dorothy Becker The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh congratulates Dorothy J. Becker, MBBCh, FCP(PEDS), professor of pediatrics and division chief emeritus of endocrinology, on receiving the Van Wyk award from the Pediatric Endocrine Society in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements in field of diabetes prevention, treatment, and research.

Dr. Becker has been internationally recognized for her work in the treatment and prevention of diabetes in children for more than 30 years. Dr. Becker’s clinical work and research has focused on diabetes and the application of new therapies. Among her many achievements, Dr. Becker has received the McEllroy Award from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Alumni Association, the Founder’s Award from the Midwest Society of Pediatric Research, and the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Diabetes in Youth from the American Diabetes Association. She also is a member of the western Pennsylvania board of directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Association and has been invited to lecture audiences around the world.

The Judson J. Van Wyk Prize is the Pediatric Endocrine Society's (PES) most prestigious award in recognition of outstanding career achievement by a member in the field of pediatric endocrinology. This award, established in honor of Judson J. Van Wyk, MD, stands in tribute to an outstanding leader whose career is marked by scientific excellence, leadership, and dedication to the health of children.

Dr. Becker will be honored at the PES 2021 annual meeting.
