The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is proud to recognize Samir Saba, MD, for being awarded the 2026 Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award by the American Heart Association.
The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Honorees have made significant contributions to medical science, shown a deep commitment to the American Heart Association’s mission, and exemplified excellence and leadership in advancing cardiovascular health.
Dr. Saba is a cardiac electrophysiologist and currently serves as chief of cardiology and co-director of the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. Throughout his career, he has remained deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of physicians and advancing public health initiatives aligned with the American Heart Association’s goals.
“Caring for patients has always been the most meaningful and motivating part of my professional life, shaping my commitment to research and education as ways to better serve those who entrust us with their care,” says Dr. Saba.“ The American Heart Association has been instrumental in supporting these efforts, helping to advance knowledge, foster collaboration, and ultimately improve the lives of patients and families affected by cardiovascular disease.”
