UPMC Fellow Woody Chang, MD Honored for Best Case Study at AGS Annual Meeting

May 10, 2018

Woody Chang, MD, a first-year fellow in UPMC Geriatrics, was honored for having the top case study poster presentation at the Presidential Poster Session at the 2018 Annual meeting for the American Geriatrics Society in Orlando. The Presidential Poster Session features the top abstracts that were submitted to the annual meeting.

Under the mentorship of Debra Weiner, MD, Dr. Chang’s poster presentation highlighted a case regarding the diagnosis and treatment of avascular necrosis of the hip, as well as the bias that led to the delay of the diagnosis. The case emphasized the importance of doing a hip exam when faced with radiating leg pain, as well as recognizing the diagnostic errors that led to suboptimal treatment.

“It is very important to look at the whole picture and remember to reevaluate your data when a patient does not get better, especially with symptoms of pain,” said Chang. “This case study illustrated this issue and I am honored to be recognized for this award because it will help to further shine a light on this ailment.”
