UPMC Children’s Welcomes New Director of Pediatric Hepatology

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that Simon P. Horslen, MB, ChB, FRCPCH, will join the Division on July 1 as the new Director of Hepatology.

Dr. Horslen comes to UPMC Children's after serving as the Director of the Hepatobiliary Program and Medical Director of Solid Organ Transplantation at Seattle Children's Hospital. Dr. Horslen also held the position of professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Horslen completed his medical training in the United Kingdom at various academic institutions and hospitals, including the University of Bristol, where he earned his medical degree.

Dr. Horslen’s clinical and research focus resides in liver and intestinal failure and transplant, as well as metabolic liver disease and acute liver failure.

Among other roles, Dr. Horslen is a previous chair of the UNOS Pediatric Transplant Committee and the Pediatric Community of Practice of the American Society of Transplantation. He also currently serves as the president of the Intestinal Rehabilitation & Transplant Association, and is an investigator in the National Institutes of Health Childhood Liver Disease Research and Education Network (ChiLDREN).
