Ruya Liu, MD, PhD, Awarded Winters Foundation Award

Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism faculty member Ruya Liu, MD, PhD, has been awarded a Samuel and Emma Winters Foundation grant to support her project titled “C5X Emerging as a Novel Target for Cardiomyocyte Renewal and Heart Regeneration.”

Each year, the Samuel and Emma Winters Foundation awards five to six grants for biomedical researchers. Department of Medicine faculty have averaged more than three awards per year for the last nine years.

About Dr. Liu

Dr. Liu’s lab is currently focused on the exploration of novel regulators of cardiomyocyte cell cycle, hypertrophy, and regeneration. In addition, her research has revealed the imperative role of Tead1 in normal adult heart contractility. 

Dr. Liu is currently the PI for research funded by the American Heart Association entitled, “TEAD1 as a Novel Regulator of Mitochondrial Function in Cardiomyocytes.” She is also co-investigator for research funded by the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute entitled, “Tead1 and Cardiac Adaptation.”
