Richard Wadas, MD, takes on a new role as VeloSource CMO, helping advance flexible workforce solutions designed to strengthen staffing and support access to care.

Managing physician staffing across a health system the size of UPMC is no small task. From recruiting physicians and coordinating coverage to ensuring specialists are available where patients need them most, staffing plays a critical role in maintaining access to care.

Few people understand those challenges better than Richard Wadas, MD, emergency medicine physician, and vice president, Community & Ambulatory Services and Network Development, UPMC. As part of a recent strategic investment by UPMC Enterprises in VeloSource, a health care workforce solutions provider powered by the Syncx platform, Dr. Wadas has been named chief medical officer of VeloSource while continuing in his leadership roles at UPMC.

Powered by the Syncx workforce technology platform, VeloSource combines locum tenens staffing expertise and technology to help health systems better understand workforce needs, optimize physician resources, and address coverage gaps. UPMC has used Syncx to support physician staffing and recruitment efforts across the system, helping improve visibility into workforce needs and available resources.

Dr. Wadas said the partnership is particularly meaningful because it grew from UPMC's own experience using the platform to support workforce staffing and physician recruitment.

"UPMC Enterprises recognized not only the value of the technology, but the real impact it can have on day-to-day operations across a health system," he said. "By investing in VeloSource, we're helping accelerate solutions that can benefit health systems nationwide while supporting a shared goal of ensuring patients have access to high-quality care when and where they need it."

The partnership highlights how collaboration among UPMC clinicians, operational leaders, and UPMC Enterprises can help identify, refine, and scale solutions that address real-world workforce challenges. Ultimately, the investment supports a shared goal of improving workforce visibility and ensuring continuous access to care for the patients and communities health systems serve.
