UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute Welcomes Echocardiography Expert, Leyla Elif Sade, MD

Dr. SadeThe UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute is excited to welcome Leyla “Elif” Sade, MD. Before joining UPMC, Dr. Sade recently held positions as senior staff cardiologist and professor of cardiology at Baskent University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. She will serve as a professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. 

Dr. Sade received her medical degree from, and completed a cardiology residency at, Hacettepe University in Turkey, followed by a research fellowship in echocardiography at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh between 2001 and 2002.

Clinical and Research Interests: Echocardiography

Since her research fellowship in echocardiography at UPMC, Dr. Sade has been internationally recognized for her work in the field. She currently serves as vice president of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), co-chair of the European Echocardiography (EuroEcho) annual scientific sessions, and has had assignments in the Program Committee of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress annual scientific sessions since 2019. Dr. Sade has teaching assignments in Europe as a member of the ESC Education Committee in the field of cardiovascular imaging. 

In addition to her extensive experience with echocardiography, Dr. Sade’s clinical interests include 3D cardiovascular imaging, myocardial mechanics, heart failure, transplantation, and valvular heart disease. She has published dozens of peer reviewed manuscripts, been invited to speak at national and international congresses on several topics related to cardiac health, and serves on multiple editorial boards including the European Heart Journal: Cardiovascular Imaging and Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography.
