Congratulations to Victor Morell, MD, the 2025 recipient of the Eugene S. Wiener, MD, Award for Excellence.
Dr. Eugene Wiener was a dedicated pediatric surgeon, devoted teacher, visionary hospital leader, and compassionative caregiver who devoted his life to caring for children and their families. His selflessness and pursuit of excellence went far beyond the call of duty. The Award for Excellence honors physicians who embody these same qualities.
Dr. Morell serves as the Eugene S. Wiener Endowed Chair and Professor and Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Co-Director of the Heart Institute of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the VP and Chief Strategy Officer of the Heart and Vascular Institute.
He received the award in recognition of his extraordinary dedication to patients and families, consistently going above and beyond to provide compassionate, high-quality care. A visionary leader and passionate advocate for children, Dr. Morell has driven innovation in patient safety and fostered cross-disciplinary collaboration to advance pediatric care. His efforts to improve outcomes for sick and injured children, combined with his ability to inspire excellence in others, have earned him widespread admiration from colleagues and patients alike.
