Mylynda Massart, MD, PhD, associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and medical director of the UPMC Primary Care Precision Medicine Clinic, co-authored a new article in the Journal of Personalized Medicine titled: “Utilizing Pharmacogenetic Results to Optimize Medication Management in Hospice Care: A Pilot Study.”
The study provides early evidence that integrating pharmacogenetic (PGx) results into hospice workflows is feasible and clinically valuable. It supports approaches that improve comfort, safety, and quality of life for patients at the end of life.
Although this pilot study is limited in size and retrospective in design, it highlights opportunities to expand PGx access, strengthen clinician education, and embed decision-support tools in clinical systems to advance precision medicine in hospice care.
