Vascular Surgeon Nathan Liang Receives 2024 Travel Award from the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society

The UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute congratulates Nathan Liang, MD, MS, FACS, FSVS, on receiving the 2024 Travel Award from the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society.
Each year, the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society awards one vascular surgeon the opportunity to travel to a vascular surgery center of excellence for the purpose of academic exchange.
With his award, Dr. Liang will visit Dr. Stephen Cheng, the Selena H.C. Yang Professor of Surgery and chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Cheng is one of the foremost experts on aortic aneurysms and dissections in Eastern Asia. Dr. Liang’s visit will focus on current challenges in complex endovascular arch and thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair and the study of aortic disease epidemiology in patients of East Asian descent.
“The VESS has a long history of supporting surgeons early in their career and I’m honored to be this year’s recipient of the travel award. Aortic surgery has progressed rapidly over the last twenty years with newer and better minimally invasive techniques, and I look forward to exploring key issues in this field during my travels,” say Dr. Liang.
Dr. Liang is a vascular surgeon at UPMC and Assistant Professor of Surgery and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Liang received his medical degree from Texas A&M and completed both a vascular surgery residency at UPMC and a master’s degree in clinical research from the University of Pittsburgh before joining the UPMC faculty in 2018.
His clinical practice includes the full range of vascular conditions but carries a special focus on the complex endovascular and open repair of aortic pathology. He currently directs the Physician Modified Endograft program for complex aortic endovascular repair at UPMC as well as the Code Rupture program for regionalized care of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms in the Western Pennsylvania region.
