UPMC Physicians Recognized for Advancing the Field of Gastroenterology

UPMC physicians of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition have been recognized for their hard work and dedication to improving the field of gastroenterology.
Dr. Schoen to Lead FORTE Trial
Robert Schoen, MD, MPH, protocol chair for FORTE, began the FORTE/NRG-CC005 trial in November 2021 along with Jeffery Dueker, MD, MPH, assistant protocol chair. FORTE is a colorectal cancer prevention study to determine whether people with one or two benign adenomatous polyps should have a repeat colonoscopy exam at 10 years, or at both five and 10 years. A total of 9,500 subjects, ages 50-70, will participate.
FORTE will be performed in collaboration with the NCI Community Oncology Research Program and the National Clinical Trials Network. NRG Oncology, which is funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), will lead the trial, along with the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group, and the Southwest Oncology Group.
Dr. Phillips Receives R01 to Study Pancreatic Pain
Anna Evans Phillips, MD, MS, received her first NIH/NIDDK R01 to study, “Pancreatic Quantitative Sensory Testing (P-QST) to Predict Treatment Response for Pain in Chronic Pancreatitis” (NCT04996628). Throughout this study, Dr. Phillips will assess the ability of P-QST to predict responses to invasive treatment for painful chronic pancreatitis. She will also work to develop a predictive model for individualized prediction of treatment responses.
Dr. Behari Honored for Patient Care Excellence
Jaideep Behari, MD, PhD, received a 2020 UPMC Excellence in Patient Experience Award. His patients rated him as a “Top UPMC Physician in Gastroenterology.” Of the more than 7,600 UPMC physicians and advanced practice providers, Dr. Behari is among just 48 recipients to receive this award.
He is an associate professor of medicine for the UPMC Center for Liver Diseases and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. He also directs the UPMC FLOW (Fatty Liver, Obesity and Wellness) Clinic.
