U.S. News & World Report Recognizes Six UPMC Hospitals for Best Maternity Care

U.S. News & World Report released its 2026 “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care” ratings and six UPMC hospitals have been recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care, including:

Each year, the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care rating evaluates hospital data relating to uncomplicated pregnancies – not high-risk pregnancies – and examines how well hospitals perform in:

  • C-section rates in low-risk women.
  • Severe newborn complications.
  • Breast milk feeding rates.
  • Routine vaginal births after cesarean delivery rates.
  • Episiotomy rates.
  • Whether a hospital meets new federal criteria for "birthing-friendly" practices.
  • Whether a hospital tracked and reported their outcomes for patients of different races and ethnicities.

Seven UPMC Hospitals Receive Maternity Care Access Designation

In addition to the “Best Hospitals for Maternity” ratings, seven UPMC hospitals also received the Maternity Care Access designation, recognizing their commitment to providing access to quality care for expectant parents and serving communities that would otherwise be maternity care deserts. This is the first year that UPMC Altoona, UPMC Chautauqua, UPMC Horizon, and UPMC Western Maryland have earned this designation.

All of the UPMC recognized hospitals are part of the UPMC Magee-Womens network, ensuring that patients can receive comprehensive Magee-Womens Specialty Services across regions of western and central Pa. and western Maryland.
