Georgios Papachristou, MD PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is an advanced endoscopist who specializes in pancreaticobiliary diseases and practices state–of–the–art ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Board–certified in Gastroenterology, Dr. Papachristou received his medical degree from the University of Patras School of Medicine in Greece graduating first in his class (summa cum lade). He completed training in Gastroenterology at the University of Pittsburgh and advanced endoscopy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

As a researcher, Dr. Papachristou, an Associate Professor, oversees a number of institutional studies and multi-center collaborations. He directs a translational research laboratory focusing on the genetic basis, immuonology, and immune therapy of acute pancreatitis. He currently receives research funding from the National Institute of Health, Veterans Affairs Health System, and American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Papachristou has authored over 100 peer reviewed articles and book chapters.
