Dr. Joon Sup Lee is, co-director, UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute and chief of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and associate professor in the Department of Medicine.

An interventional cardiologist by training, Dr. Lee’s research and clinical interests include the role of stem cells in the treatment of coronary artery disease. He also was instrumental in the implementation of “door-to-balloon time” at UPMC – a protocol that streamlines the triage process for heart attack patients arriving in the emergency department.

Dr. Lee earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. He then completed a medical internship and residency, as well as two cardiology fellowships, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He joined the University of Pittsburgh faculty in 1996 after serving as an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.

A member of the American Heart Association (AHA), Dr. Lee was appointed president-elect of the AHA’s Allegheny Division. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Massachusetts Medical Society, and has been appointed to fellowship in the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Lee is the author or co-author of nearly 15 professional journal articles and 20 abstracts.
