Dr. Moreland’s areas of specialization include rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis and autoimmune diseases. His research focuses on therapies for various autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus and spondyloarthropathies and osteoarthritis.

Dr. Moreland’s latest research includes evaluating genetic and environmental factors in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis in African Americans, evaluating the efficacy of various disease- modifying agents used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, and new approaches aimed at developing disease remission for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr. Moreland received his medical degree from West Virginia University, where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, before completing his fellowship in rheumatology and clinical immunology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
