Dr. Field completed his undergraduate and medical school training at the University of Florida where he was a Florida Academic Scholar, graduated with highest honors, and was selected to the University’s Junior Honor’s Medical Program. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While there, Dr. Field received numerous honors for his research in cerebrovascular disease and in the management of sports-related neurosurgical injuries.

Dr. Field has authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and has made over 30 presentations at both national and international neurosurgical meetings. He has served as an instructor at several national forums teaching advanced techniques in minimally invasive endoscopic neurosurgery, complex spinal surgery, image-guided stereotactic neurosurgery and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery.

Dr. Field’s current areas of clinical interest include endoscopic and minimally invasive cranial and spinal neurosurgery (for brain tumors, pituitary tumors and various spinal disorders), complex spinal surgery, Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and surgical management of neurovascular compression syndromes (including Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemifacial Spasm). Dr. Field’s research interests center around the neurosurgical management of the elite athlete. His current research aims to improve the management and treatment of sports-related concussion, develop less invasive surgical means to return athletes to play after spinal surgery in a more timely and safe fashion, and to better understand the biomechanics of golf-related spinal disorders.

Dr. Field is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the North American Spine Society.
