Timothy C. Wong, MD, MS is director of the UPMC Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center and associate director of the UPMC Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Center.
Dr. Wong obtained his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, followed by residency at New York University School of Medicine, Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Wong then completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced cardiac imaging, both at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Wong focuses his clinical efforts on multimodality cardiovascular imaging, combining his background in echocardiography and nuclear cardiology with advanced training in cardiac MRI.
He helped establish and currently directs the UPMC Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center at UPMC Presbyterian - one of approximately 40 such centers in the United States – where patients receive expert care from a multidisciplinary team. Dr. Wong continues to maintain a general cardiology practice at the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Heart Center.
Dr. Wong's research interests include the comparative effectiveness of cardiovascular imaging modalities, as well as the role of a novel cardiac MRI biomarker of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in cardiovascular diseases, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His work has been published in major scientific journals, including Circulationand the European Heart Journal. He also participates as a site investigator in several multicenter research protocols, while serving as a scientific reviewer for numerous journals, an American Heart Association grant review committee, and imaging society working groups.
