Profile:

Dr. Goldstein is a licensed clinical psychologist whose research focuses on the development and examination of psychosocial treatments for youth with, and at-risk for, bipolar disorder. Her program of research is also devoted to the prevention and treatment of suicidal behavior in youth. She has clinical experience applying Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Family-Focused Therapy (FFT), and Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) for adolescents with, and at-risk for, bipolar disorder.

Dr. Goldstein is the recipient of several federal and foundation-funded research grants, including a National Institute of Mental Health Career Development Award (NIMH K23) designed to examine the effectiveness of DBT for adolescents with bipolar disorder, a National Institute of Mental Health Exploratory Research Grant (NIMH R34) to develop IPSRT for youth at-risk for bipolar disorder, and a NIMH R34 to examine the effectiveness of a Brief Motivational Intervention to enhance medication adherence in youth with bipolar disorder. In collaboration with colleagues in sleep medicine, she is conducting a study examining the association between sleep, substance use, and suicidality in youth with bipolar disorder funded by The Pittsburgh Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).
