Drs. Anuradha Ray and Jay Kolls each present from the 2016 Pitt-Munich International Lung Conference. Dr. Ray discusses Immune Tolerance in Maintenance of Lung Heath and Loss in Disease and Dr. Kolls discusses Type17 Cells and Defense against Lung Pathogens.

Educational objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize that immune mechanisms, both positive and negative, impact respiratory health.
  • Recognize the role of mitochondrial H2O2 as a negative regulator of inflammation in the face of constant provocation of the respiratory tract by environmental agents.
  • Identify a role of the cytokine interferon gamma (IFN-g) in severe asthma.
  • Review primary genetic mutations that confer increases risk of fungal pneumonia. 
  • Review mechanisms by which primary genetic mutations that confer increases risk of fungal pneumonia
  • Review how IL-22 has in vivo anti-fungal activity in pre-clinical models of fungal pneumonia
