In this grand rounds presented by the Department of Medicine, Joseph M. Pilewski, MD, explains cystic fibrosis. Dr. Pilewski describes the importance of identifying gene mutations and also reviews the impact of CFTR modulators.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the pathophysiology of lung disease in cystic fibrosis
  • Recognize that cystic fibrosis is an increasingly adult disease with a variety of manifestations
  • Explain new treatment for cystic fibrosis and how those are improving quality of life and survival 
  • Describe how identification of a cellular and genetic defect provides opportunities for targeted therapeutics
