UPMC Welcomes Transplant Nephrologist Susan Wright, DO

UPMC is proud to announce the addition of transplant nephrologist Susan Wright, DO, to our team. Dr. Wright has extensive clinical and research experience relating to nephrology. Her expertise will contribute to the continuation of UPMC’s legacy of life-saving kidney transplant care at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Dr. Wright completed her medical degree at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattiesburg, Miss. She then completed an internal medicine residency at Mercy Health in Warren, Ohio and Youngstown, Ohio, where she served as the co-chief resident from 2018 to 2019. Following her residency, Dr. Wright completed a nephrology fellowship at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. After her nephrology fellowship, she completed a transplant nephrology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

During her nephrology fellowship, Dr. Wright completed multiple presentations, including the topics of renal management of magnesium homeostasis, in-center hemodialysis six times per week versus three times per week, reduced exposure to calcineurin inhibitors in renal transplantation, and C3 glomerulonephritis and dense deposit disease.

Dr. Wright is a member of multiple professional societies, including the American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association, American College of Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Internists, American Society of Transplantation, and American Society of Nephrology.

Although transplant is a complex, serious procedure, we maintain a personal, patient-focused approach that takes into consideration the stress and concerns many individuals experience.
