Dr. Krishna V. Tummalapalli is an interventional cardiologist with more than 25 years of experience in Pittsburgh. He was recently appointed as director of Interventional Cardiology at UPMC Shadyside.
In the early 1990s, he performed the first coronary artery stent procedure at Shadyside Hospital, a first among all Pittsburgh area hospitals. Always eager to find innovative procedures that benefit his patients, he has developed an expertise in transradial catheterization and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures and teaches this technique to other physicians.
Dr. Tummalapalli has earned a gold medal in biology in college and received his medical degree from Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool, India. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Cook County hospital in Chicago, Ill. He then completed his fellowship in cardiology at UPMC Shadyside. He is board-certified in internal medicine, general cardiology, and three times in interventional cardiology (1999, 2010, and 2019). He has served in the past, as an associate director of Cardiology Fellowhip Program at UPMC Shadyside and as co-director of Echo Cardiology department at UPMC Shadyside.
Dr. Tummalapalli is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and Fellow of Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).
