Dr. Nami Safai is dually trained in endocrinology and geriatric medicine. He completed his fellowship training in geriatric medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and in endocrinology at the University of Pittsburgh. His clinical expertise focuses on osteoporosis prevention and management, with particular emphasis on complex and high-risk older adults. His research centers on the interplay between osteoporosis and sarcopenia — often referred to as osteosarcopenia — and on how pharmacologic treatments for osteoporosis may impact muscle mass and function. Dr. Safai currently serves as the medical director of the UPMC Center for Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease and is an assistant professor of medicine.
