In this publication, UPMC Drs. Nicholas Baker, Inderpal Sarkaria, Ryan Levy, Valentino Bianco, Ibrahim Sultan, Takashi Harano, Ernest G. Chan, Pablo Sanchez, and Derek R. Serna-Gallegos provide an update of cardiothoracic surgery.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in other specialties to determine when first rib resection is indicated for relief of thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS).
  • Explain the potential benefits of robot-assisted first rib resection for the treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome.
  • Implement their care of patients with primary cardiac malignancy by increasing their knowledge of treatments that improve long-term survival.
  • Recognize precautions taken to allow lung transplant to be performed safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Recognize anatomic factors that impact the ability to perform a successful endovascular repair in the ascending aorta.
