Julia Meade, MD, and Elena Kessler, MS, LCGC, describe the genetic basis of cancer and differentiate between somatic and gremlin mutations. They also present types of cancers seen in children and suspicious family histories that raise concern for an inherited cancer predisposition syndrome (ICPS).

- Explain the role family history contributes to a cancer genetics referral in children diagnosed with cancer
- Recognize the prevalence of ICPS amongst children diagnosed with cancer
- Describe the indication for a cancer genetics referral in children
