Epilepsy Surgery Pioneer Joins UPMC

Jorge Gonzalez-Martinez, MD, PhD, has joined the UPMC Department of Neurosurgery as Director of the Epilepsy and Movement Disorders Division and as Co-director of the UPMC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

Dr. Gonzalez-Martinez specializes in novel surgical methods for treating epilepsy including stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG), SEEG-guided laser ablative procedures, neuromodulatory interventions, and robot-guided surgeries. He was the first to bring some of these innovative surgical procedures to the United States and other countries. 

To date, Dr. Gonzalez-Martinez has published more than 180 peer-reviewed articles and more than 20 book chapters related to epilepsy. His field of interest is related to neuro-electrophysiology, intracranial signal processing and behavioral neuroscience studies. For more information, please visit upmc.com/neurosurgery
